マクラを濡らしてこはね(Makura-wo-nurashite Kohane) -- Hopping Girl Kohane Strategy Guide

An unofficial guide site for the action-puzzle game Hopping Girl Kohane.

What Is Hopping Girl Kohane?

It's a 3D action-puzzle game.

The official website is here.

Platforms: Switch (Kohane EX, KOHANE JK), PS4 (Kohane EX), Steam (Kohane EX)
Genre: Platformer -- the kind where you hop toward the goal
Dimensions: 3D
Perspective: Third person
Story: Almost none
Multiple endings: No
Estimated play time: 15-25 hours
Drop-off rate: High
Progression elements: Light. You can unlock stronger outfits, but the game can be beated with the starting setup.
Recommended screen size: No special requirement
Display latency requirements: A gaming monitor is not required except for the Steam edition
Recommended controller: A controller other than Joy-Con or Joy-Con 2 is recommended

Some players say the late-game stages are very difficult, but that may be because they try to force their way through while ignoring the puzzle mechanics. If you take the intended route, the overall difficulty feels slightly lower than many well-known action games.

Which Version Should You Buy?

The newest release, Hopping Girl Kohane EX, is the recommended version.
Mobile versionYou may end up uninstalling it after about 30 minutes.
Hopping Girl KOHANE JK *1Only available on Switch. This game is often described mainly in terms of action difficulty, but Single Mode also has puzzle elements that are not present in Kohane EX. Nearly every stage contains hidden problems that require careful thought.

In normal gameplay, the difficulty order is:
Kohane EX Championship > KOHANE JK Championship > KOHANE JK regular stages > Kohane EX regular stages

PS, Switch and Steam Versions

Hopping Girl Kohane EX is available on PS, Switch and Steam. The PS version contains no sensitive presentation.
From an action-game standpoint, the PS version has a jump-related issue that makes a few stages difficult to clear without mistakes. Aside from those specific stages, however, it generally has advantages in lower processing delay, controls, and smoother visuals. Both hardware and software differences make the PS version favorable overall.

About the Steam Version

The Steam version has several differences from the PS and Switch versions.
・Additional Championship Mode stages
・Combos are maintained while miniaturized
・You can still see your surroundings after being caught by ghosts
・Rankings
・Many coins appear
However, it also has the following issues:
・Visual quality issues during movement, including unstable low frame rates and screen tearing
・A long period at the start of each stage where input is not accepted
As an action game, it is probably fair to rank the Steam version below the Switch version. Also, because of Steam account behavior, creating a new user profile for speedruns is not possible.

Controller support is as follows. These are USB connections.
・Official Xbox controller (officially supported)
・Official PS4 DualShock controller (officially supported)
・Official PS5 DualSense Edge — requires changing the PC audio output device
・XInput-compatible controller, probably supported
・Xbox-compatible controller, probably supported
The following did not work in testing:
・Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller

This game supports Steam Cloud feature.
This game supports Steam Overlay feature.

Controllers

The controller recommendations are as follows:

HORI HORI Pad TURBO for Nintendo Switch 2 (Steam)
B tierPro Controller (Nintendo Switch), DualSense Edge (Steam)
C tierPro Controller (Nintendo Switch 2), Microsoft Xbox controller (Steam)
D tierJoy-Con 2 > Joy-Con
.

Championship Mode

KOHANE JK’s Championship Mode consists of high-difficulty bonus stages designed for dedicated players. Its rules are slightly different from the regular stages. Kohane EX's Championship Mode also features high-difficulty bonus stages, but it makes heavy use of random elements. In practice, players compete partly on how favorable the run is.

For First-Time Hopping Girl Kohane EX Players

For details on how to beat each stage, see here:

(Find the stage you want to watch from the playlists.)

Too Long. Three Lines, please.

This did not fit into three lines, but playing with the Switch Joy-Con is not recommended. Even in tabletop mode, use a Pro Controller or a similar external controller; otherwise, the final stage becomes noticeably harder.

Required Control Skill Level

Level 1 You can move forward and move left or right in the direction you want to go.

Level 3 In a stamp area, you can move one space in any direction: forward, backward, left, or right.
Level 4 You can move forward while continuously stepping on stamps arranged with one floor panel between them.
Level 4 You can step on stamps arranged with two floor panels between them while inserting one landing in between.
Level 5 You can continuously step on stamps arranged horizontally with one empty space between them.
Level 5 You can cross a slowly moving platform that is about three spaces wide.
Level 5 You can move backward before jumping to build momentum.

Level 6 You can carefully cross one-space platforms separated by two empty spaces.
Level 6 After being launched by an acceleration arrow, you can brake immediately after the landing and stay in place.

Level 8 You can perform horizontal consecutive stamps separated by two empty spaces.
---------- Earn all S-Ranks
Level 9 You can perform diagonal consecutive stamps separated by two empty spaces.

Movement Control Tips

The timing for stick input is shown below. Release the stick every time you jump. Because combos allow up to two landings, you do not need to step on stamps continuously. Build the habit of starting your input just before landing.
